# Enabling XBOX Device Portal

> Enable XBOX Device Portal in Dev Home Remote Access Settings, connect from a browser on your PC, and set up a custom SSL certificate to avoid warnings.

To enable or disable XBOX Device Portal on your XBOX console, select the **Remote Access Settings** button in the **Remote Access** tab on the **Home** screen in Developer Home (Dev Home) as shown in the following screenshots.

## Connect to XBOX Device Portal

1. On the console, open Developer Home (Dev Home).
2. On the **Home** screen, find the **Remote Access** pane. It shows the IP address and port to use for XBOX Device Portal.
3. In a web browser on your development PC, go to `https://<ip-address>:<port>`. The default port is 11443. Include `https://` in the address.

XBOX Device Portal runs on the console itself. It isn't a public website, so searching for it doesn't open it. Type the full address, including `https://`, directly into the browser's address bar. If the browser shows search engine results instead, it treated the address as a search query.

You can also use a web browser on another device, as described in [XBOX Device Portal](https://docs.xbox.com/tools/tools-console/wdp/wdp.md). The device must be able to reach the console's IP address over the network.

If the page doesn't load:

* Confirm that XBOX Device Portal is enabled in **Remote Access Settings**.
* Confirm that you're using the IP address and port shown in the **Remote Access** pane.

## Certificate warning

When you connect to XBOX Device Portal from your web browser, a warning message appears (similar to the following screenshot) about the certificate that was provided. This is because the security certificate that was signed by your XBOX Development Kit isn't considered a well-known, trusted publisher. To access XBOX Device Portal, select **Continue to this webpage**.

![Continue to this webpage selection in the certificate warning](https://mintcdn.com/microsoft-4404708b/5IpvKlT-jmAaVkeY/images/gdk/tools/xdp_3.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=5IpvKlT-jmAaVkeY\&q=85\&s=ae9239e0536f31ea03d272ee4141797e)

The wording of the warning depends on your browser. In some browsers, you first select **Advanced** to show the option to continue to the page.

If the browser doesn't offer an option to continue, for example because it reports that the site uses HSTS, set up a custom SSL certificate as described in the next section. After your browser trusts the dev kit's certificate, the warning no longer blocks the connection.

## Use a custom SSL certificate

To prevent this warning message from appearing when you connect to XBOX Device Portal, set your web browser to trust your dev kit. This is done by providing your own root certificate authority (*root CA*) and SSL certificate. The root CA signs the certificate to create a trusted connection. Each dev kit needs a unique certificate that's signed by the root CA. Use one root CA with multiple certificates to connect the same development PC to multiple dev kits. Use the same root CA on multiple development PCs to connect to the same dev kits by using the same certificates.

### To provision XBOX Device Portal

1. If you or your organization has a root CA, use it to create certificates for each dev kit.

2. If you don't have a root CA, you must create your own. For instructions about how to do this and install your root CA to your development PC's Trusted Root Certification Authorities, see [Provision Device Portal with a custom SSL certificate](https://learn.microsoft.com/windows/uwp/debug-test-perf/device-portal-ssl).

3. Create a signed certificate with the root CA for the dev kit. For information about how to do this, see the previous link.

4. Add the certificate to XBOX Device Portal by using the **Add XBOX Device Portal custom certificate** action in an unattended setup script.
