# HCTraceImplMessage

> Sends a trace message. Use the trace macros instead of calling this function directly.

Sends a trace message.

## Syntax

```cpp theme={null}
void HCTraceImplMessage(  
         HCTraceImplArea const* area,  
         HCTraceLevel level,  
         char const* format,  
         ...  
)  
```

### Parameters

*area*\
Type: HCTraceImplArea const\*

The trace area. If the value is `nullptr`, the function does nothing.

*level*\
Type: [HCTraceLevel](https://docs.xbox.com/reference/live/httpclient/trace/enums/hctracelevel.md)

The trace level. The message is dropped if *level* is greater than the verbosity of *area*.

*format*   \_Printf\_format\_string\_\
Type: char const\*

A `printf`-style format string.

*...*

Arguments for *format*.

### Return value

Type: void

## Remarks

Use `HC_TRACE_MESSAGE` or a level-specific trace macro instead of calling this function directly. Level-specific macros such as `HC_TRACE_ERROR` and `HC_TRACE_INFORMATION` compile out when their level is excluded by `HC_TRACE_BUILD_LEVEL`. `HC_TRACE_MESSAGE` compiles out only when tracing is disabled entirely.
